Followers of Christ in Durban seek ways to engage their Hindu and Muslim friends in conversations about the teachings of their various faiths, always looking for opportunities to share how Jesus is the answer to all of life’s questions and all of life’s needs. In addition to maintaining their regular worship, evangelism and discipleship activities, Durban’s KwaDabeka Baptist Church touches lives in their community by offering business training for the unemployed and ministry to victims of HIV/AIDS and their families. As church members strive to show that God is interested in every aspect of a person’s life, pray they will be aware of both the apparent and the unspoken needs in the lives of the people they serve.

Pray for the many people whose lives are touched by the outreaches of Tabitha Ministries, Zakhe School and Itemba Projects in Sweetwaters, a section of Pietermaritzburg, northwest of Durban. Intercede for followers of Jesus who are serving in Sweetwaters and who weekly see people succumb to AIDS. Imagine the heartbreak of watching an entire family—mother, father, grandmother and three-year-old child—die from AIDS within a three-week period. Pray that those who minister in Jesus’ name will seek comfort from Him in these difficult times.

Pray for the many residents of Pietermaritzburg who have lost their jobs due to factory closures. Pray they will soon find employment in meaningful new occupations that provide adequate income for their families.

Pray for the ministries of Genesis Gym in Shelly Beach/Margate, south of Durban. Missionaries use the facility to reach into the community to promote HIV/AIDS awareness and God’s pattern for marriage, cell groups for new believers, discipleship groups, a community garden, a reading room for children, a day care, and skills development workshops.

Westville Baptist Church in Durban is a hub for The Ultimate Goal activities in the area. Pray that churches and volunteer groups will be unified as they strive for the goal of seeing that everyone in the Durban area has a chance to hear the Good News about Jesus.

Pray that the children who participate in Friends of Jesus Clubs will want to please Jesus more than anything else and that their faith in Him will grow strong and deep.

Ask that individuals seeking God will have dreams and visions of the living Christ, and that they will recognize who He is and want to follow Him.

Pray for fans and athletes from South Korea and Portugal who will be in Durban for the games.

In the past several years, flooding and severe storms have impacted Durban and the surrounding communities. In addition, fires spread quickly in informal settlements, bringing another type of disaster into the lives of individuals who have a difficult existence to begin with. A need for more people to be trained in disaster relief will be met with a conference that is being planned for August of this year. Pray that as the preliminary promotion begins, many people will understand the need to be organized to help with the disasters as they arise, so that those in need will see the love of Jesus revealed through a caring hand coming their way.

Pray that Muslims in the Durban area will come to know and accept that the Bible is not corrupt and that Christians are not their enemies. Pray for volunteers to go to Durban to share the truth about Christ with students, business leaders, shopkeepers and homemakers.

Many people who follow other major world religions live in Durban. Pray they will encounter South Africans or visitors who will share Christ with them.

Pray that many church leaders and churches will choose to provide sports-related programs with opportunities to share Christian testimonies during their events.

Pray for fans and athletes from Australia and Brazil who will be in Durban for the games.
